Dr. Yaodong Shi, Deputy Director-General, Department of Industrial Economics, Development Research Center for the State Council

Dr. Yaodong Shi came to ITS-Davis in 2014 as C-CET’s first Distinguished Visiting Scholar.

Dr. Shi conducted research on two topics: challenges and options for natural gas transportation in China, and how China can utilize and iterate on California’s EV development and policies. Large scale policies, like carbon trading, are concepts that China is very interested in, and Dr. Shi gained first-hand experience to help China’s policy makers implement these methods in a way that’s right for the country.

Dr. Shi is from the Development Research Center of the State Council, a Chinese state agency dedicated to researching and developing new policies for the economic and social development of China. The center is the Chinese government’s leading think-tank for researching and influencing policy changes. As Deputy Director-General, Dr. Shi develops long term strategies in transportation, energy, and other industrial sectors.
